Quilts for Kids

I put aside 2 days per month for volunteer quilting--yup, pencil it right into my calendar.  I usually quilt for Quilts of Valor but don't have any to quilt this month.  So, I made these two Quilts for Kids.

This was a quick and easy panel.

I found this fabric in my Mom's closet when she moved from her house.  She let me have all her sewing supplies and any fabric she had.  I recognized this fabric from a quilt she made for my son when he was little.  So, this fabric has been around for about 27-28 years.  By the way, the original quilt is in my grandson's closet now.  We saved it after my son grew up and Mom gave it back to his little boy on his first birthday in 2008.

I think this little meander fits it just right.  This is the original backing fabric also.  Of course Mom hand quilted around all those barn yard critters back in the day.

After it was washed, it was so soft and cuddly.

For some reason, I had a lot of big chunks of fabric left over from 2 other quilts recently made from this fabric line: 

  

Anyway, I decided to try my pattern for a giant Log Cabin.  It goes fast, my fabric seemed to be in 6-12 inch wide chunks, and I didn't want to cut it up. 

I used 80/20 Legacy Batting  I love it!  It is so soft, drapes well and gives a nice definition to your quilting.

I even had enough leftover fabric to piece the center of the backing . . . 

. . . and make a bias binding.

This little quilt is incredibly soft and cuddly.

I hope it is a comfort to some little buckaroo.
