Graduation T-Shirt Quilt

I'm still here....and just finished up this HS graduation quilt.

I love taking a pile of shirts like this and turning them into a memory quilt.

Rescue Quilts, continued

I rescued this Bazooples fabric at a garage sale last summer and have made it into 2 quilts.

 Pretty fun fabrics here.

 This first quilt was made from a single piece of fabric in the center and that set the tone for the size and use of the rest of the fabrics.  I had just enough white to put in a border and also use it for the  backing.  There was a lot of the blue stripe for the second border and to piece the backing.

 Lots of fun creatures to look at on this little quilt.

Quilt number 2 made use of all the pieces left over from the remaining scraps.  I needed a sashing and a border and went shopping in my stash and couldn't seem to find the right blue, the right pink or the right yellow.


 Surprise, surprise . . . here was a matching green that was perfect. 

Since I had oodles of the blue stripe, I was able to made bias binding for both quits.  I love bias stripes.

I added the last piece of Minky from a bolt I had on the shelf. 

 It dresses it up a bit.

for the

Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge 2018.

It just takes one yard of focus fabric and then I just "shopped" in my stash for coordinating fabrics for the other strips. 

Construction themed fabric was fun to use.

This quilt top was 47 x 54 so I just used a length of grey, split and pieced with 8 inches of orange.  I love it when I can economize backings by piecing them.

Clothesline Quilt is Done

Once I got all the orphan blocks quilted, I just had fun quilting.

These blocks were all done by a lady who is deceased.  I was given them, along with her fabric stash several years ago.  I used some of her blocks for a couple of wedding quilts for her granddaughter and grandson. You can see those quilts here and  here.  

Other than my thread, this entire quilt was made from her fabrics.  The size, design and color were dictated by that factor.

These cute blue birds are made from the scrap of blue silk I found in her stash.

The clothesline is maroon.  That was the darkest color I could find in her fabrics.

I had this single flour sack block with an appliqued tulip.

Hmm....it took me a few days to decide how to work it into the quilt.

It's appliqued to the very bottom of the quilt with a row of ghosted tulips.

While the most diverse and interesting blocks are hanging on the clothes line, the 4 blocks that were the most similar are inserted into the backing.

The floral backing has some blue so it looks quilt nice with front.

The binding is a piece of blue/white shirting. 

Here you can see it all together with my sweet new satin labels.

How fun is that?

I made this to give to this lady's daughter as she recently lost her husband.

This completely uses up all the vintage blocks I have been given.

 I am so glad I was able to put them to good use. 

Clothesline Quilt Update

I just started this last night.

Got all the blocks quilted and now ready to go back and do a fun background filler.

  I have to check the back with every roll, to make sue the blocks are taut.
There was a lot of fullness in them, and I don't want any big tucks.

I placed this block at the very bottom of the quilt.

I will ghost in more tulips all along the bottom border. 

Leaders and Enders Charity Quilt

Done!

I used a Hobbs Cloud high-loft batting so this quilt is more like a comforter.

I made all the blocks during the piecing of  2 other quilts using the charms as leaders and enders.

Since I only needed 16 blocks, I used all the remaining charms to make a strip for the backing...

...because, I love pieced backings. 

Leaders and Enders Quilt

Well, I started using a single charm pack as leaders and enders about 2 years ago.  Without even trying, I finished up all these blocks while sewing other quilts.  Last week, I added some borders to make this into a twin sized charity quilt.

After I got all the charms sewn, I just used what was in my stash to put it all together, very simple quilt and I am looking forward to quilting it next month.

 I even used up the last of the charms to make the best use of fabric yardage for the backing.

Quilt of Valor #64

Here is a second Quilt of Valor top pieced by Judy in Newark, OH.

I did a freehand swirl all over the top...lots of patriotic fabrics here...

I used gold thread because it plays nice with all colors of fabric.

She pieced a surprise backing that I love!

This is going to be perfect for a Veteran who is/was a pilot.

  She pieced this panel into the center of her backing and it has pictures of bomber planes.

With a back like that, this quilt really is 2 quilts in one.  It was fun to be her partner on this QOV.  I got it in the mail tonight..."winging" its way back to her so she can get it bound and ready to present.
